Every last Thursday of the month, Zurich’s Club Kauz hosts an open electronic music jam in front of a live audience. 4–6 musicians come together to improvise live using electronic and/or acoustic instruments, creating a collective, hypnotic sound collage.
This masterclass is designed to prepare you specifically for this unique form of collaborative music-making – not just in theory, but through hands-on experience with concrete tools, exercises, and reflection. It’s aimed at anyone looking to get ready for a live jam setting or deepen their improvisational practice.

O/Y - DJ & Producer (he/him)

Jakob Ahrends is a classically trained drummer, producer, and live performer. As a recognized music educator with a university degree in music, he brings in-depth theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. In his live sets, he combines elements of his own tracks with free improvisation, utilizing an extensive setup of hardware devices. Over the years, Jakob has performed improvised live sets with a variety of artists, and in this masterclass, he shares his professional approach to collaborative music-making.
Oilst - Live Performer (he/ him)

Ueli is a live performer, organizer, and co-ordinator of the monthly Thursday jams at Klub Kauz. He has participated in numerous jams and has extensively explored how electronic improvisation can succeed both musically and socially. With his experience in organization, artistic direction, and as an active musician, he offers valuable insights into group dynamics, the role of individual instruments, and creative preparation for improvised situations.
