From his early years, where music was simply a backdrop to his life, to discovering his true calling while at Panorama Bar in 2016, Ede’s journey is driven by the freedom and inclusion inherent in dance music. A transcendent moment on the dance floor led to a total shift in his life, leaving his successful career, and hometown, to move to Berlin and make music. He was rewarded for taking a leap of faith, with his first release being signed to the label of his dreams - Innervisions. Now resident at Watergate in Berlin and a widely respected artist who has appeared on some of the industry’s most influential labels, Ede is proof that following your heart really can pay off in the most life-affirming way... Born and raised in Tübingen in southern Germany, Ede’s path into music came much later in life than most of his peers. Raised in a Turkish household, he had direct influence from his roots, while also experiencing a variety of different music. Initially, he followed a traditional career path and made a success of himself in IT. Despite the material success he achieved, though, Ede was unfulfilled. “I ended up cramming myself into a suit that I never wanted to wear just for the sake of others,” he says. In summer 2016 everything changed when he visited a friend in Berlin, who took him to Berghain. There, in Panorama Bar, he discovered Âme, whose heartfelt, melodic selections penetrated deep into Ede’s soul. In particular ‘Lingala’ by Lee Burridge and Lost Desert proved to be a pivotal track, sparking a moment of transformation and transcendence. This was to be the moment that changed Ede’s life. He decided to leave his job and move to Berlin, with the intention of making music that would encapsulate that moment and spark similar feelings among those who heard it. Inspired by the emotional impact of the music, combined with the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere of the dance floor, Ede channelled his energy into the studio. “I grew up in a small town and was often confronted with intolerance because of my roots. For me, Berghain is the complete opposite. There I am accepted and loved – for who I really am,” he explains. Every time Âme played Panorama Bar, Ede would be there. Eventually they got talking, he got their contact details and, a few months later, sent them some of the music he’d been working on. Amazingly, Dixon played his track ‘Jenny’ at Burning Man. Not long after, Ede experienced that same track being played by Dixon in the flesh at Panorama Bar. That same evening he received an email saying the track had been signed to Innervisions’ Secret Weapons 11 compilation. The circle was complete and Ede’s first track landed on his dream label. Soon afterwards his second release was signed to Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondant label. And Ede’s life-changing decision was not only justified, but confirmed to have been the correct one. In the years since he has landed releases with labels like TAU, Sum Over Histories, Jirafa and Isolate, travelling across Europe and the rest of the world to share his emotive sounds. Fueled by his desire to reach as wide an audience as he can, Ede adopts a considered approach to his productions; shaping his music so that it aligns with the platform or selector he wants to connect with. At the heart of his productions is, of course, his own personal sonic identity, which remains present in everything he does - emotive, heartrending, impeccably produced and made to fill the dance floor with positive energy. Influences come from his eclectic tastes, never sticking to one particular formula or blueprint. Like many artists, Ede doesn’t want to be confined to a box, preferring to go with his gut and try different styles. Central to his music though, is the ethos of unity, freedom, inclusivity and touching the souls of those who are listening. Unusually, for an artist who operates in the so-called underground, Ede’s has ambitions to break into the commercial domain. “I want to be as commercial as possible and as cool as possible, at the same time,” he reveals. By reaching the mainstream, he will achieve his goal of reaching as many people as possible with his enriching productions. With his sights set on bigger platforms, and the music he’s making possessing such powerfully emotive qualities, Ede’s is on the right track to take that next step. Still working the dance floor every month at Watergate, while also touring the globe, Ede’s dream come true continues to be his reality. Driven by the purity of a life-changing dance floor experience, his unwavering dedication to making and playing music remains steadfast and forms the nucleus of a remarkably successful entrance into electronic music.
